Durbanville, in the North West of Cape Town, is a fantastic place for a long scenic drive where you will find yourself surrounded by the many hills cultivated into wine farms that the area is known for. Guests of our Clifton and Camps Bay Cape Town luxury accommodation may drive for 15-20 minutes while guests of our Hout Bay luxury accommodation Cape Town may drive for up to 25 minutes to reach Durbanville but it is well worth it. Among these numerous wine farms, you will find the Durbanville Rose Garden, where visitors are encircled by literally thousands of rose bushes.
This colourful spectacle consists of 4500 rose bushes of which there are 500 varieties strategically speckled across the 3,5 hectare property in a pleasing landscape design. Visitors to the Durbanville Rose Garden can choose to examine trial beds where international nurseries test new roses, or delight in the beds of miniature roses. Be sure to find the gazebo that houses the ‘Fairest cape’ rose.
Visitors can also spend the day learning about antique roses which have been planted around graves in the past, medal winning roses as well as floribundas and climbers. Then, after a hard day of roses viewing, relax in the tea garden immersed in the colourful spectacle of the garden.
Guests of our Cape Town luxury villas may be interested to know that the first rose bushes were planted in the garden in 1979 and the first test beds were dug in 1981. The garden is open to visitors from sunrise to sunset and tea is held in the clubhouse every Sunday afternoon between May and October. There are four workers who lovingly maintain the garden, while ‘Friends of the Rose Garden’ club offer their own skills and expertise to the workers.
Guests of our luxury accommodation will find the Durbanville Rose Garden located along the well known Durban Road in Durbanville. Be sure to bring a bouquet of fresh roses home with you to compliment your stylishly decorated Cape Town luxury villa.
